Deakin Estate Moscato is one of the lowest alcohol wines around, measuring in at 4.5%. Its fruit comes from the estate's own muscat gordo vineyard. Even the cellar guys at Deakin Estate love it, says Dr Phil.
The secret: It is very well balanced in its sweetness and acidity, with a sense of honey drizzled over crunchy red apples. A real party goer.

Sherberty and delicious

Two wines really caught my eye at a recent visit to Deakin Estate. The first was the 2009 Moscato, weighing in at a remarkably low 4.5 per cent alcohol. That's low even by moscato standards. And yet it works: it's fresh and musky, sherberty and delicious. If you like the moscato style, and in particular the lack of alcohol punch, then you've found yourself a bargain.

This is one of the very few super-low alcohol examples that has intensity of flavour, and more importantly considerable length. Its high residual sugar is largely masked by its low pH of 2.92 rather than its middle of the road (6.5g/L) of acidity. Drink now. 90 Points

Watery pale with lemon/lime flashes and a gentle froth in the glass. The aromas are appeley, grapey and lemon sherbet. What a delight in the mouth! Juicy sweetness and a petilliant sparkle, delicate and so refreshing. A really superb wine. Scrumptious.

Super drinking, super value

Note, please, the alcohol reading. I'm about to help someone out with their restaurant wine list and I'm thinking, as an experiment as much as anything else, of making a section on the list for 'lower alcohol wines'. At 4.5 percent this wine makes an irresistible pitch for any such section. It's made with muscat gordo blanco grapes.
Huge aroma. Musk, bubble gum, grapes. Really low in alcohol – intentionally. They have been making this at 5.5% alcohol but over the past few years they have worked it down. It has lots of fruity sweetness but lots of acidity too. Aftertaste of sherbert. Super drinking, super value and superbly easy to drink.

Simply outstanding value for money, this lovely Moscato is a little treasure. Yes, it's got that varietal sweetness, but it's also got refreshing spritz and a crisp bite - like eating a sweet apple - along with herbaceous and floral notes.
