Reviews- Past Vintage

  • Regan Drew, Vinonotebook, Australia
Light and bright cherry/plum jam with shiny blackberry hints, vanilla paste and a little dried woody spice. Fresh and juicy, yet more importantly: varietal. Has plenty of plums and red currant fruit. Oak influence minimal, save for a suggestion. Tannins are tiny firm rumbles. Sure, the flavour finishes somewhat short, but then the intent is simplicity for the price.

It’s hard to find a vegan wine for under $10, so it’s good to know this one fits the bill and delivers buckets of flavour. What it lacks in structure it more than makes up for in drinkability, offering up loads of luscious berry aromas and flavours, plus it has a smooth finish. Drink it with mushrooms, roast root veggies.

An uncomplicated quaffer made from fruit harvested at Red Cliffs near Mildura in the Murray Darling district of Victoria..

Who says you can’t find anything decent to drink for under a tenner? This is a terrific quaffing wine made from 100% shiraz from Red Cliffs near Mildura in the Murray Darling district of Victoria. It’s nicely balanced, soft and supple with plummy fruit to the fore and just a hint of oak. It’s one for enjoying now, perhaps with a backyard barbecue, or maybe with a pizza with the lot.

A simple Shiraz retailing for $10. It's a red that ticks the box. Some bright red plum fruit with touches of vanilla and scents of bacon hock and char. An easy go-to for a casual sausage sizzle. Drink now to three years. 86 points.

Deep red wine with fruity aromas and a rich, smooth, juicy palette with flavours of ripe red berries, plum, hints of vanilla and spice. The winemaker says this wine is vegan-friendly and goes well with barbecued meats and beef stir fry.

Remarkable that this is still $10. It has fruit. It’s jubey and red cherried with a gravelly, gum leafy edge. It’s a BBQ red and it’s still a decent one.
