Deakin Estate varietal wines are crafted from family owned, estate grown vineyards that lie in the Murray Darling region of north west Victoria, Australia. Here, the mighty Murray River weaves across the land, bringing life to the region and to our vines. Rich, fertile soils and a warm, sunny climate create a perfect environment for growing quality fruit to make these delicious wines.

The longer, cooler ripening season experienced in 2017 across southern Australia stretched to the Murray River districts as well, and these grapes rested on the vine so the fruit ripeness spread widely. This is spicy and minerally with clear notes of quartered apples and a pithy mouthfeel. A tiny addition of semillon is included — perhaps it adds to the wine’s herbal notes. 4 Stars.

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to source quality wines with a recommended retail price of $10 a bottle or less. Here’s a wine from Mildura for everyday drinking. It is fresh, clean and lively with bright tropical fruit flavours and a soft, gentle finish. It’s uncomplicated, pleasant drinking.
